Meet Your Coach

Hi, I’m Mia.
I’ve experienced great joy in my relationships as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, neighbor, and colleague. I’ve also felt deep heartache when struggling in conflict with people I care about. Since you’re here, I’m guessing you’ve experienced that, too.

Once relationships are tangled in hurt, misunderstandings, and resentments, they become hard to untangle. Each person wants to be heard before they are ready to truly listen.

That’s where Conflict Relief Coaching can help. In private, supportive sessions, I listen and partner with you to explore needs, set goals, and find clarity. As your capacity grows, you’ll find yourself responding with greater calm, choice, and authenticity.

Conflict Relief Coaching brings understanding and agency, complementing other practices you use to keep your emotional balance: therapy, mindfulness, recovery, prayer, or simply your own inner work. These practices have brought me more peace, joy and connection, and I’d be honored to assist you in your journey.

If Conflict Relief Coaching would be valuable to you, please explore my site to learn more. I look forward to supporting you.

Take care,

Mia

FAQ

Is Conflict Relief Coaching right for me?
  • Are you feeling stuck in a tense situation?
  • Are you motivated to improve this situation but aren’t sure how?
  • Are you willing to look at the situation and the people in it in new ways?
  • Would you value partnering with a coach to gain agency and understanding?
  • Are you willing to work towards your conflict relief goals (knowing the only person we can change is ourselves)?

If you answered yes to these questions, read on.

How is it different from consulting or therapy?

Coaching is a partnership focused on your goals and growth. Together, you and your coach set a goal—like reducing conflict by improving communication—and take small, steady steps towards it.

Your coach listens with empathy, asks thoughtful questions, and offers grounding processes to help you gain clarity. Unlike consulting, coaching isn’t advice-giving—it’s about uncovering your own insights and solutions.

Your past may naturally come up, and you decide what to share. As long as both of you stay centered, you can keep working toward your conflict relief goals.

Since Conflict Relief Coaching often touches on emotional subject matter, it is sometimes confused with therapy. This example helps illustrate the value of coaching and the recognition of its limits (when turning to therapy is the right choice).

Coaching isn’t therapy and doesn’t diagnose or treat trauma, depression, or other serious conditions. If these concerns arise, coaching stops while you get support from a licensed professional.

I avoid conflict – why would I want this?

You’re not alone – many of us avoid conflict at any cost. But avoiding conflict doesn’t bring relief – it still impacts our peace of mind.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identifies unresolved conflict as a risk factor for adverse health outcomes. Chronic conflict and emotional suppression, which often result from avoidance, create a stressful environment that can lead to resentment and emotional distress. This lack of open communication and peaceful problem-solving is linked to an increased risk of depression and anxiety.

Conflict is inevitable, but being stuck is not. If you are ready to work towards finding relief, read on.

How is Conflict Relief different from Conflict Resolution?

Conflict Resolution (also known as mediation) focuses on resolving a problem.  Conflict Relief Coaching focuses on you–helping you feel calmer, clearer, and more grounded in your path forward, whether or not the conflict resolves.

Mediation relies on both people coming together in conversation. Conflict Relief Coaching sessions are private sessions with you, to help build your understanding and determine what you want to do. You can find relief even if you choose not to engage directly with the other person.

For deeper or long-term conflicts, coaching helps you take small, steady steps that build trust, confidence, and lasting change.

If this sounds interesting to you, read on.

How can I stay true to myself around judgmental people?

Authenticity matters—but it can feel risky when acceptance is at stake.  Sometimes it seems like a choice: either be authentic or be accepted.  But it doesn’t have to be.

Conflict Relief Coaching helps you explore your authentic self with empathy and understanding. You’ll learn to recognize what drives judgment and choose how you want to show up—staying grounded, honest, and connected.

The conflict communication skills you’ll develop draw from Marshall Rosenberg, PhD’s Nonviolent Communication, specifically John Kinyon’s Mediate Your Life framework and Oren Jay Sofer’s Say What You Mean.

They will never change… so how could this help?

The only person we can change is ourselves.  In doing so, we change relationship dynamics, which often improves the relationship as well

Conflict Relief Coaching processes build a greater understanding of the situation as a whole; this often expands empathy and tends to bring people together. Still, the primary goal in Conflict Relief Coaching is to help you find agency and relief, regardless of what another person chooses to do.

Your sessions can help you feel better prepared for an upcoming interaction. Debriefing with your coach afterwards can help you process how the interaction went and decide how you want to move forward. Both preparing and debriefing can help your peace of mind.

Even if you choose not to interact with the other person, processing the situation with your coach can still bring more understanding and peace of mind.

What’s an internal conflict?

Not all conflicts are between people. An internal conflict arises within yourself. Common examples of internal conflicts include:

  1. Struggling with harsh judgments from your Inner Critic.
  2. Endless spinning thoughts when trying to make a decision, often accompanied by a lot of “shoulds”.
  3. Setting a goal but falling back into habitual patterns that prevent you from accomplishing it.

Inner conflicts can affect your peace of mind, including sleep patterns and anxiety levels.  Settling inner conflict can bring more self-acceptance, inspiration and forward progress.

Can you help with political conflict?

If you are generally struggling with political conflict and the state of the nation and world, then I highly recommend checking out Braver Angels (including this video for navigating tough emotions) and John Kinyon’s Healing Spaces for the Societal Challenges We Face.

If you are struggling with political conflict in your relationships and would like 1-1 support, Conflict Relief Coaching may be a good fit for you.  As a long time moderator for Braver Angels, I have experience helping people navigate political conflict in relationships. I’ve seen the patterns that drive people apart and the shifts that can help bring them together.

Can Conflict Relief Coaching support my 12-step recovery?

If you are working a 12-step program, Conflict Relief coaching can be a strong complement, supporting the guidance you receive from your sponsor and your Higher Power.

In Steps 4–7, coaching helps you look at your character defects—or coping habits—with understanding instead of blame. Seeing how those habits try to protect you can shift frustration into self-compassion and inspire new, healthier ways to respond.

Steps 8–9 can be especially hard when you’re still upset about the harm you’ve experienced. Conflict Relief coaching offers a safe, grounded space to process those situations and prepare your heart for making amends. Through gentle reflection and role play, you can find empathy and readiness to take the next step.

As your recovery evolves, some relationships may shift or fade. If you want to maintain or strengthen meaningful connections while staying true to your program, coaching can help you do that with honesty and respect.
